A Note on Racist Attacks on Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Community

Share

We would like to express our strongest solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. We denounce these repeated, horrific and racist attacks against our AAPI friends and family, and in particular yesterday’s violent attack against Asian Americans in Atlanta,Georgia. We are committed to addressing racism and xenophobia within DPHS and fostering a climate of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our department and across Duke. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes, communities and workplace. We will continue to do everything in our power to protect our students, faculty, and staff, particularly those who come from underrepresented backgrounds.

To all AAPI members of our department, we stand with you and we will advocate for your continued safety. Also, we remind everyone to take care and give yourselves grace during this particularly challenging time. Please reach out to us if there is anything that we can do. We encourage you all to take advantage of the free resources available for a range of personal, work, and family problems at the Duke Personal Assistance Service.
