The Duke Department of Population Health Sciences held its inaugural Climate x PopHealth symposium on April 8. The symposium titled, “Innovative Strategies for Addressing Climate-Related Health Challenges,” brought together experts from a variety of disciplines to discuss novel approaches to tackling the health impacts of climate change.
A total of 60 attendees gathered for the event, which featured a keynote address by Robert Saunders, PhD, senior research director at the Duke Margolis Institute for Health Policy. During a panel discussion, Duke population health faculty members and local leaders explored ways to build community partnerships to advance policy.
The day also included oral presentations, a poster session, and round table discussions covering topics such as data science and AI, social determinants of health, implementation science, and the emerging field of mental health in climate change.
The event was organized by the Climate x PopHealth Working Group to serve as a launchpad for generating ideas that bridge research, policy, and practice, said Hayden Bosworth, vice-chair of research and professor in population health sciences.
