Ms. Cates is a Regulatory Coordinator in Dr. Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein’s Re-Envisioning Health and Justice Lab. In her previous role as site coordinator for the JCOIN PIERS project, she assisted with the development of study procedures and materials in addition to overseeing the implementation of the initial phases of the project in Brunswick County, NC.
Ms. Cates received her bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and her MS in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center–Houston School of Public Health. For the past fifteen years, she has worked on a variety of projects in public health research in Texas, the District of Columbia, and North Carolina, primarily focused on HIV prevention/treatment and health disparities among specific populations, including those directly affected by the criminal legal system.
