Daekiara Smith-Ireland is a committed scholar and advocate for health equity, currently pursuing her Doctorate in Public Health at Mercer University, specializing in Social Epidemiology.
A proud alumnus of Clark Atlanta University with a BS in Biology, and Mercer University where she earned her MPH, Daekiara has consistently demonstrated a profound dedication to understanding and addressing the social determinants of health that impact underserved communities.
As a first-generation student and HBCU alumna, Daekiara’s unique perspective is integral to her work, which includes pivotal roles such as Research Coordinator and Senior Research Interviewer. Her research has significantly contributed to projects focused on cardiovascular health and sleep disparities among African Americans, leading to culturally sensitive interventions.
Selected for the prestigious 2023-2024 Bridge Scholar Fellowship, Daekiara is excited to deepen her research under the mentorship of leading health experts, enhancing her ability to develop and implement effective public health policies and practices aimed at eradicating health disparities.
Beyond the academic and professional realms, Daekiara is an avid traveler and fitness enthusiast who cherishes spending time with friends and family, exploring new cultures, and promoting health and wellness.
