Jamilah A. Watson

Jamilah A. Watson is a third-year doctoral student at the University of Delaware in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.

She has a BA with a double concentration in Spanish and International Studies and an MA in Sociology. Her research interests broadly focus on identifying the mechanisms of health inequity among low-resourced populations. She is specifically interested in identifying the pathways of inequality that occur via patient and physician interactions. In particular, her research aims to identify barriers to care for patients with limited English proficiency. Her interdisciplinary research approach draws on insights from race scholars, medical sociologists, and migration scholars.

Additionally, her research is community-oriented and shaped by her experience working as a Community Health Worker
