Dr. Samuels is a Health Services Researcher with an unwavering commitment to the advancement of health equity through research. Her core belief is that everyone deserves access to quality, timely and affordable healthcare regardless of their socio-economic status or identity. She is particularly interested in addressing the social determinants of health, as well as disparities in healthcare access and patient outcomes among marginalized populations with chronic conditions.  

Prior to joining Duke University, Dr. Samuels worked as a Senior Research Scientist at a large healthcare system where she led the analysis of several studies, including oncology research. She joins Duke University with over 6 years of post-doctoral healthcare research experience in observational studies using real world evidence data, as well as extensive experience in analyzing large databases, such as the National Cancer Database (NCDB) and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS).  

Dr. Samuels' educational background includes a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a concentration in Public Health Management and Policy, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Health Services Research from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.
