SubCommittee 1 within the DPHS DEI Committee addresses an insufficient sense of community and a lack of trust in the department in relation to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as insufficient safe spaces for all identities. This subcommittee organizes community-building-focused events on a quarterly basis and creates the quarterly DEI Newsletter. They are also pursuing setting up gender-neutral bathroom(s) and increasing office accessibility for differently-abled employees and visitors.
Historically, SubCommittee 1 was two separate groups before SubCommittee 1 & 5 merged to better accomplish their goals SubCommittee 5 previously established a Wellness/Lactation Room within our building, presented to the department on Understanding Gender Pronouns and Gender Identities, and collaborated with SubCommittee 1 to host events that help create safe spaces.
