The DPHS DEI Committee is pleased to share this report of the department's activities over the last several years. Inside, you'll find data and summaries related to key measures of representation, policy and practice improvements, education offerings, and culture. A final section expands on areas for improvement within DPHS. This report is the much-appreciated result of the hard work of Amy O'Regan and Subcommittee 4 members Tina Cheng, Paul Dennis, Jennifer Thomas, and Carolina Mejia.

June is Pride Month and it's a time for us to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community and their many contributions, while also creating a safe space for people of every identity and orientation to feel safe, respected, and cared for. Here are the many ways to show your support and celebrate this month:

Juneteenth is a holiday that is celebrated on June 19th that commemorates the official emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States. Though the Emancipation Proclamation declared enslaved people were free in 1862, it was not fully enforced until June 19th, 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free by executive decree.

After an overwhelming response last year, we are excited to relaunch DPHS Summer Photo Contest! Please find the details of the contest in the flyer below. Enter the contest to receive a $100 gift card to support a Black-owned business of your choice.
