June is Pride Month and it's a time for us to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community and their many contributions, while also creating a safe space for people of every identity and orientation to feel safe, respected, and cared for. Here are the many ways to show your support and celebrate this month:

Juneteenth is a holiday that is celebrated on June 19th that commemorates the official emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States. Though the Emancipation Proclamation declared enslaved people were free in 1862, it was not fully enforced until June 19th, 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free by executive decree.

Join us for a Virtual Happy Hour/Pride Musical Bingo event in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride month!   We have curated a playlist of LGBTQ+ artists, spanning through the years and across different genres to test your knowledge of LGBTQ+ music. We want to celebrate how vital LGBTQ+ artists have been in pop music and the cultural fabric and so much more with you all!

In an effort to create a more inclusive and accessible environment, the Department of Population Health Sciences has worked with Duke Health Facility Planning, Design & Construction to get an automatic door opener installed at the entrance to the office suite. The automatic door opener can now be activated by waving your hand over the sensor mounted to the wall next to the suite door.

Sign up with or without a cornhole partner, and join us for refreshments provided by Carolina Crust, prizes, and a great chance to connect with our fellow department members! No cornhole experience necessary.
