DPHS Summer Institute Opens Registration for 2025

Duke's Department of Population Health Sciences launched registration for its sixth annual Summer Institute, offering an expanded lineup of workshops designed to enhance the research capabilities of early- to mid-career researchers, healthcare professionals, and students.

The 15 workshops will take place between June 9-26 and include five new offerings that address emerging challenges in public health.

"We're particularly excited about our expanded in-person options and new workshop topics this year," said Asheley Skinner, PhD, Vice-Chair of Education. "From exploring artificial intelligence applications in population health to examining climate change impacts, we're addressing the most pressing issues facing health researchers today."

New workshops include:

  • Community Control of Communicable Diseases
  • Using Geospatial Data in Health Outcomes Research
  • Climate Change and Population Health Sciences
  • Artificial Intelligence: Uses of Machine Learning and Large Language Models in Population Health
  • Social Entrepreneurship in Public Health

The program employs diverse learning approaches, including live discussions, case studies, and hands-on training. All sessions are led by Duke University faculty, providing participants with practical tools and frameworks they can immediately apply to their work.

Participants can register for individual workshops or choose an all-access pass to attend multiple sessions. Early registration discounts are available through February 12, 2025. The Summer Institute is complimentary for BRIDGE participants, who receive full scholarships for workshop attendance.

Since its inception, the Summer Institute has attracted hundreds of participants from around the globe, establishing itself as a premier professional development opportunity in population health sciences.
